auf meinem neuen HP Ntebook lässt sich kein Ubuntu installieren. Was muß ich beachten

Asked by Hans-Juergen Herbert

Vielen Dank
Hans-Jürgen Herbert

From Google Translate:

I bought a new HP notebook without an operating system, because I only work with Linux. However, I do not come to the device to complete the installation. The Live CD is up and running and I can try any OS on it, but during installation something hangs and I just have to cancel. Can someone help me?
Many Thanks
Hans-Jürgen Herbert

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Are you installing using USB or CD? If it's a CD did you burn as slowly as possible?

I used a CD (multi-boot CD from "Linux Welt") I used several times very successful on other PC's. The CD starts also normally and I can try every system (Ubuntu, Mint, Suse...) but when I would like to install it, it does not install complete. It stops at an installation step and I can only make a shut down

Which version of Ubuntu is on that disc?
At which step does the installation process stop?
Is there an error message shown?
Have you already tried different options (e.g. deselect "download updates during install")?

You might consider trying the genuine Ubuntu installer (download from https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?version=16.04.3&architecture=amd64 ) instead of your multi-OS disc.

Are you selecting to install updates after installing? I suggest you don't use this or even connect to the Web during installation

The version is 14.04 and the installation stops at the screen asking name and password. The button "next" will not activate. At the version 16.04 (I also used several times without problems) activate the button "next" on the screen for name and PW but afterwards the screen goes black with no further reaction.
