Installing software from Ubuntu Software Installer?

Asked by runner1956-5150-60

I have gone to the Ubuntu Software Installer several times now. I find different apps, select them and try to install them.

They start to install but then Ubuntu asks for authentication and asks for a password. I cannot for the life of me figure out what password it means. My computer password? I tried that. It was a no go. My Ubuntu site password, same result, fails to install and after 3 tries it just closes the installation app.

So, my question is:

what am I doing wrong ... again.

I'm 61 years old and still trying to teach myself this stuff. Interesting as it is ... I'm too 'set in my ways' (read that as stubborn) to just quit and reinstall Ubuntu 17.10 again.

Besides which, when I installed 17.04 I did a full system install and wiped my hard drive so that I wouldn't run into this type of problem again.

LOL - guess the saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" may actually apply to me and software.

Its the password you log in with. If you set a blank password then this makes this issue. You can use this link to reset it easily:
