On 16.04, newest kernel does not work, no mouse cursor.

Asked by michael

Newest kernel for 16.04 4.11.0.1040 azure does not work. Everything seems normal, but have no mouse cursor. The last kernel works fine. Have searched for answers on internet. I have become confused, azure is only mentioned with server, cloud, VM or Microsoft. I have none of those on my computer, dual boot with 14.04 and 16.04.

Canonical, with the team at Microsoft Azure, are now delighted to announce that as of September 21, 2017, Ubuntu Cloud Images for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on Azure have been enabled with a new Azure tailored Ubuntu kernel by default. The Azure tailored Ubuntu kernel will receive the same level of support and security maintenance as all supported Ubuntu kernels for the duration of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS support life.

Anyone have an idea why no mouse cursor, or how to remove azure? Do I need azure and just don't know it?
Any help is appreciated.

I suggest you report a bug. Why are you using a GUI and how are you connecting to the UI?

NOT meant as sarcastic answer, just a fact. The GUI comes with Ubuntu. Do not know what UI means. Googling it leads to a lot of Microsoft related sites. Only Linux UI site, relates to Sikuli. Do not have a need for Sikuli. The answer to the second part of your question, I don't know how I am connecting to UI.

You say the server doesn't have a mouse pointer.... So how are you connecting to the server to then not see a cursor?

The text below, is copied from a site I was on. Do not remember which site. I should have made that clearer.

I am on Ubuntu 16.04 on a desk top. I will send a picture of what I see. Must shut down, and photograph it. Be back soon.

First line gives Ubuntu 14.04. Fifth line gives 16.04 with no mouse cursor. Not usable. Must go to sixth line to get to 16.04.

Must go to fifth line, to get a working 16.04. Have tried all three lines with 4.11.0.1040 azure, none will work. Tried all items in recovery box. Only 4.4.0.98 generic works.

This is solved. Read everything I could find about kernel 4.11.0.1014. Could find no reason, I needed it, so I removed it. Do not know why it was on my computer, or how it got there. My mistake, calling it 4.11.0.1040.
