WIRELESS NOT WORKING!!!!

Asked by Pepers

What a shame! I would love to use Ubuntu as my main operating system on my laptop but after practically pulling my hair out trying to get my wireless to work I have to call it quits and go back to XP!
I mean come on guys... it's 2009 and the OS doesn't work with wireless adapters??
To clarify, I just downloaded the latest version of Ubuntu last night and have been researching this issue on the forums all day and nothing seems to work.
If anyone knows of a quick fix please let me know, otherwise it's back to XP Pro!

Thanks!

To be able to help you acquire wireless drivers for your machine, I would need to know the following:
Are you using Ubuntu 8.1 stable or the latest beta?
Which wireless device do you have?
What is the model of your computer?

It would really help if you could be a bit more specific about your setup. Like:
1) What wireless adapter are you using? Laptop model would also help :)
2) Which version of Ubuntu?

Since driver support changes from version to version you might want to test the current develpment version of Ubuntu that is going to be released in less than a month:

Hey guys! Thanks for the help! I am running version 8.10 stable and my wireless adapter is a Broadcom B43. It was able to find the device and had a driver for it but it wouldn't let me activate.
Any help is greatly appreciated because everything else about the Ubuntu OS I absolutley LOVE!!!
Thanks!

Fixed! It actually kinda fixed itself. I just completely removed the driver for it and after a full shut down and restart I then decided to try one more time to reinstall and activate the driver and it worked!
Thanks for your efforts everyone!
Sincerely,
