download problem

Asked by Ed Decker

I am new to Linux installation. I downloaded 5.10 to my desktop but It requested a extracting software to open it. I am having problems getting it to work. I'm obviously doing something wrong, please help me with a step by step instruction on how to get it on my harddrive so I can burn a CD. I want to use it on my new computer that does not have a OS on it.
Thanks, Ed

You say you downloaded it to your desktop... Therefore it's on your harddrive. I'll assume you're using MSWindows. For an OS install you should have "ubuntu-5.10-live-i386.iso" An ISO is a raw disk image. You'll have to refer to your CD burner documentation for burning the raw image to CD. Before starting, you might want to check the md5sum... It should end in "3b5a47d4". Refer to for guidance using md5sum.

I have downloaded md5sum and I still can not burn the file to a CD, I'm ready to give up and order a CD. Any help would be apreciated.
