Mediawiki does not work after upgrade to Ubuntu 17.10

Asked by Tommy Pollák

My installation of MediaWiki 1.28.1 in /var/www invoked by http://localhost/mediwiki-1.28.1/index.php does not work. Instead of showing index.php it shows a listing

$mediaWiki = new MediaWiki();
$mediaWiki->run();

in the Chromium web browser and just

run();

in Firefox.

Where should I start looking for an error?

Running the following after the upgrade allowed mediawiki to run again.

  sudo a2enmod php7.1
  sudo systemctl restart apache2
