No app inidicator icon tray after upgrade to 17.10

I've upgraded Ubuntu Gnome 17.04 to Ubuntu 17.10. Everything is working fine, except that there are no app indicator icons in the system tray. I tried to use different extensions like topicons and kstatusnotifieritem, removing appindicator package, reinstalling ubuntu-desktop, removing config files of gnome and something that I don't remember already.
Is there a way to fix it?

Possibly:

export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity

In a terminal, does it make any difference?

No, icon size is the same after I ran that command.

I performed a fresh install to avoid any issues with an old configs and the problem still persists, but in another way: there is an icon app indicator after the boot, but the size is very small, also after lock/unlock screen the icon disappears.

One more note: I tried to execute export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity and there are 2 changes:
1. App indicator icon size is bigger now.
2. There is a badge indicator with a number of unread messages on the icon in the dock.
