How do I install hplip-3.17.9.run

Asked by Paul Garff

Tried to execute: pgarff/Downloads/hplip-3.17.9.run
Got message: permission denied

So much for an easy fix to get my hp officejet printer 8710 to work again. I really need help.
I've been trying for four days to fix this problem. It would be nice if you just included the file with the next upgrade of ubuntu 16.04 LTS

I still can't get hplip-3.17.9.run to run. Everyone thinks my problem is solved but it isn't. I guess I will have to go to the library and find a linux book for dummies.

Totally frustrated.

Yes! Read your own questions when people reply.

I clearly gave you 2 commands..... Ball is still in your court so, to answer your question, YES I have answered your question.

Please don't make duplicate questions as it achieves nothing and read replies when they are given.

I also posted a reply on
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/659266

SIX DAYS ago. YOU have not updated it to say it worked or didn't work or that you even tried the steps stated. You just made 4 more questions for the same issue then moaned people don't reply?

It makes no sense. You do have to reply in forums. We can't see your system or read minds so when people suggest steps to take or commands you need to tell us what happens or give textual output.....

The community and people replying are not at fault here. You are. Think about it.....

I finally found a version of HPLIP-3.15.2.run that worked. Thank you for
the commands that worked also.
