Wel lsuddenly I am having MAJOR Problems with Ubuntu

Asked by Lynne Stevens

Started out with some small problems with 16.04.3 in virtual box up date and would not let me Update the program . . Then it started having problems connecting to the 3D printer so I Upgraded to 16.10 did a format and started over Seems 16.10 will NOT TALK to 3D printer at all and installing Virtual Box to run windows in LOL NOT TODAY . . Went to 17.04 and did total re format eaerased drive and all and it got worse . . Oh yeah 64 bit versions . . I have went back to 15.10 and the Updates to it are gone from the repository so it can not be up updated and run any thing else , , !
So now what . . ?

What make and model is the 3D printer?
How does it connect to the system?

We need information about the printer to advise and you have omitted this

Yes, Ubuntu 15.10 is not supported any more (already for more than a year, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases).
The current best choice usually is Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Can you please explain: Are you running Ubuntu in a virtualbox environment on a Windows host system, or the other way round (Windows in a virtual machine on Ubuntu host)?

Please follow the "one question document - one problem" rule.
I am a bit lost what you want to discuss here.

If you want to discuss your 3D printer problem here:
Is there a specific program for communicating with it, or is it accessed via the normal printing programs?
Is there anything shown in dmesg when you plug its USB cable into the computer?
Does lsusb list it?
