What release of Ubuntu?
What sort of connection are you using?
Client to what? VPN?

How can anyone possibly reply with so little information?

We cannot see your system and we aren't psychic.

I thought it had something to do with the setting in synergy. or a change that needs to be made on its config file. but I have no clue what to change.
after all, it did work fine till it stopped working and it took me 4 to 5 hours a day for weeks to find two things I needed to do to get it working again. I now have it working but have to add the info to the one computer every time.

All I did was download it and put in the names and IP addresses pick a point on the screen where it would switch and it works.
it's just the setting in the client on synergy are not being saved so I have to put them in everytime I power up.

What release of Ubuntu - Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
What sort of connection are you using - a wire into the modem from each computer.
Client to what? VPN? no clue don't think I'm even using one.

Ok I've looked it up and everything reads synergy or VPN. well, I'm using Synergy.
So it's a setting or something to do with the config file of synergy. I don't know much about this but even I can figure out its something to do with the setting I just don't know what to change to have it save the Ip address and was hoping someone here did.

For diagnostic purposes please provide the output of the following commands (to be executed in a terminal window):

uname -a
lsb_release -crid
apt-cache policy synergy
find ~ -name '*synergy*' -ls

I have also found that adding this ( /usr/bin/synergy ) to startup applications will turn it on but this is starting it up as Sever, not as Client. I've searched but can't find anything about what should be added in the startup applications for the Client.

So far the last two days it's been working.
I have changed nothing. I gave up and thought I would always have to use a 2ed mouse to start it. But now it's turning on with NO CHANGES done to it. Augh.
I have now learned to never update till a year has passed.
Rushing to get the new versions out pushing to meet the deadlines, makes everyone the ginny pig.
So many things worked fin till you update.
I wish I was back 4 years when everything worked with no problems.
Now today I have a list of 13 to 14 things that just don't work anymore. Sad to say.

Would like to thank Manfred & actionparsnip for trying.

Wish I could say why it's working now for anyone that has this problem. I did keep deleting the log when it did not connect maybe that did it but after 10 to 15 times why would it suddenly work? I can't say.
But I can't and will mark this as fixed by the bug killing gods. lol
Thank you, again, for trying. at least I got a new keyboard, the other one did not live after I took out my frustrations on it. Boy did that feel good :)
