Synergy not conecting
Every few month I hit this wall, Synergy is not working. I spend 5 to 6 hours trying things to get it to work and somehow it starts. But after doing so many things reading so many pages. I lose track what made it work. again. And after doing that so many times I'm in a hole of what??
The server is ok from what I see. the computer I'm trying to control is showing "Warning failed to connect to server incompatible client 1.5
Question One how do I fix this?? 6 to + more of hours of fighting to get it to work every few months is wasting my time and frustrating e to not means.
When trying to use their help
I get the need to sign in and then pay for it, but I thought it was free on Linux??
Question 2 if I keep having to do this waste of time is there another system I can use? I don't need to do any thing but have my mouse and keyboard work on them both. I've tried quick Synergy but the setup destruction for it are vag at best I never got anywhere with it.
It's like playing the piano with one arm cut off blood and pain flowing.
both computers are Linux. You could not pay me to use windows. lol :)
The server is 64 bit and other is 32 bit it's an old computer mainly used for back up data and to play music and video.
I know I'm asking 2 question here but the frustration of this every few months is unbearable. I just want it to work.

OK server has 1.8.8 and client has 1.6.2 this is why they don't work. I have no clue how one changes but the other did not.
I don't understand why they both have different ones or how one was changes. After all, they were working.
I go to the software center and each computer shows a different version. Also the in synaptic package manager. So the tree time I'v deleted them and reinstalled them I was getting nowhere.
so I have no clue on how to have both computers use the same system for it to work again.
I again tried what I've found on many pages out there but what I see is there is more outdated info then there is that will work. This saving everything on the web will in time reach 99% of useless outdated info. Something I feel will be a huge problem in the future.
Sorry getting off topic.
Ok how do I get the computers to download the same version, so they work again?

Also, it's been another week of me trying things.
Sever has 1.6.2
other computer has 8.8.1
In both stoneware centers, they are not the same so I can 't download the same ones to get them to work.
also I've never known how to install something for a download where you get the cardboard box "don't know what there called. I don't know what to do with them.
I have the cardboard box of synergy_
but if I get it to work will it update to the other?? and I'm back in hell??
after all one of them changed some how no clue. it has been working for years. now it's back to the stones age.

I cannot comment on possible interoperability of different versions of synergy.
I can just tell the following:
on the computer that you want to control you have added getdeb.net as an additional repository source for packages, and this now has lead to the installation of synergy version 1.8.8-1
If you want to have the same version on both your systems, then you have to either remove the getdeb.net repository and revert to the standard Ubuntu version of synergy, or add getdeb.net also on the server (which probably cannot be recommended).
You seem to have some additional errors in the package management configuration of your workstation system:
ppa:wallch/
Similar for ppa:tualatrix/ppa (contains software only for releases up to trusty).

OK how do I remove the getdeb.net repository and revert to the standard Ubuntu version of synergy.
I've had that computer the longest. So +10 years or so of changes on that one. I really have no clue what changes have been made to it. And if you're recommended not to add the Getdeb to my workstation computer. I'm good with that.
I really don't know why or what it was added for. But can live with what ever it will change as long as I can have Synergy working again.

For a listing of packages that might be in the version form getdeb.net issue the command
dpkg -l | grep getdeb

I found a page that showed me showed to remove the getdeb
it read
Software & Updates -> Other Software, uncheck archive.getdeb.net box. Worked fine on Ubuntu 16.04.
And I got to install the 1.6.2 and IT WORKS AGAIN!!!
YOU ROCK BRO.
I THANK YOU SO MUCH.
