I can't get my computer to recognize my dvd burner (HP dvd1140i)

Asked by Ruth Allen

I just replaced my cd burner with a new dvd burner (HP dvd1140I) a 22x multiformat dvd writer. My cd rom burner worked fine but now my computer is not even recognizing the drive a all. I put a cd in the dvd burner and nothing happens. When I pull up the computer file it doesn't even show a cd or dvd burner. How can I get it to install and work with ubuntu.

- does the pc BIOS recognize it at boot up time (before the os loaded) ? it should appear listed on the boot screen if it was installed properly.

- are the burner jumpers set up correctly ? is it a master or a slave device ?

the above should be checked and made sure that the BIOS 'sees' the burner. ubuntu should have no problems configuring it afterwards.
