WinTV PVR USB2 24xx failed after last kernel update

Asked by Ketan Patel

After the last Ubuntu 16.04 LTS dist-upgrade, which included new kernel 4.4.0-87, my WinTV-PVR-USB2 (Hauppauge Model 24xx) device no longer appears in /dev, as it did before. There were other packaged updated at same time, so I'm not exactly sure if kernel is cause of problem, but I assume so. The devices shows up in dmesg.

Other than resorting to older kernel and hope that fixes it, I'm not sure what to do. I'm not sure how to determine if this is a bug in kernel or caused by some other change.

Can you select an older kernel from the grub menu to verify whether the kernel is causing this?

or maybe it was 4.4.0-91 kernel..I'm not sure, I did a couple of dist-upgrade, before discovering that I had a problem and the nature of it.

Yes, when I start older kernel, (4.4.0-83), the devices works fine.

Can you help with this problem?
