To delete the Ubuntu partition:

There are several ways you can delete a partition, including Computer
Management (Local) and Command Prompt from within Windows itself (for
more information type “delete partition” in Help and Support in the
Start menu). However, since you will be using the GParted LiveCD anyway,
the following instructions will instruct you in the correct procedure
using the GParted LiveCD. You can go straight from deleting the Ubuntu
partition to resizing the Windows partition. If you have not already
burned a copy of the GParted LiveCD, do so now before continuing below.

Gparted can be downloaded from

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

   9. Insert the GParted LiveCD in the CD or DVD tray on your PC.
  10. To accept the default boot options hit Enter.
  11. To accept US English language hit Enter.
  12. To accept the default keymap hit Enter.
  13. To accept the default screen depth hit Enter.
  14. Click on the Ubuntu partition in the graphical display.
  15. Press the Delete button.
(or if you are using ubuntu 8.04 or ubuntu 8.10 live cd ..)
Pop in the live cd and go system -> administration -> install and repeat steps 14 and 15

Then reinstall windows

It might be more rewarding to install Vista as a second OS on the same system. having both OS's gives you time to explore the one you're unfamiliar with while using the other for tasks you need done in a hurry. Also each OS can help fix some problems the other might have.

It's always good to have a backup. Which reminds me that simply deleting your ext3 partition will also delete all of your data which you may want to save onto an external drive or dvd/cd's first. Make sure that this is done to Windows ntfs or fat32 though because Windows is a bit blind when it comes to trying to read data from other OS's.

If you are really serious about re-installing Vista as the only OS then i recommend paying someone in a shop to do it for you. It's not easy to install or set it up and there are numerous extra programs that you may need in order to get your system usable in any useful sense. I recommend OpenOffice as it's considerably less expensive than M$ Office and much safer than trying pirated versions of such software.

For emailing you might also try Thunderbird and you'll need a good strong anti-virus that virus writers don't compromise. I've heard that ClamAv is good.

Good luck and regards from

Is this because you didn't get any response to your question about Elise? I think you got unlucky with that and reposting it might get a few good responses now.

We're sorry that you didn't have a good experience with Ubuntu and wish you better luck in future.

Good luck and regards from
