ubuntu 18.04LTS 32 bit crashes when trying to load libre office files

Asked by Peter Jordan

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, 32 bit ,set up with two users self and wife. If I launch libre office on my account it works perfectly. When my wifes account is used libre office shows the thumbnails page okay but as soon as you try to open a file libre office crashes. Same thing happens if I go to wifes Ubuntu files and try to open a libre office file. Everything else seems to be working fine.
Ubuntu reported an internal system error but my wife did not get the details.
I can't understand how Libre Office can work on my account and not on my wifes on the same computer. How do I correct this problem?

Your title talks about Ubuntu 18.04, but such version does not exist (yet).
Please re-check the contents of your problem description.

Sorry about the typo Manfred. I meant 16.04LTS as correctly typed in the full narrative of the question above.

Andrew output is as follows
no lsb modules are available.
Distributor ID Ubuntu
Description Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release 16.04
Codename xenial
Linux peter -GA-880GMA-UD2H 4.4.0.87-generic #110-ubuntu SMP tue Jul 18 12:54:58 UTC 2017 i686GNU/linux.

I have backed up with the program built into Ubuntu 16.04. can I simply uninstall libre office from the software centre then reinstall it again.

If I did this would the backed up libre Office files be uninstalled/ removed as well. They contain important Data I can't afford to lose.???

If your data is important then it should be backed up.

Uninstalling an application and reinstalling it doesn't do anything to files made in that application. No OS does this.

If you rename the configuration folder for libreoffice which is inside ~/.config then run the application, is it OK?

If an application works for one user, but not for another one, this can be caused by wrong personal settings.

Try deleting the configuration settings of the user where the programs crash (as already told by actionparsnip)

Uninstalling libreoffice does not delete the files that have been created with it (unless they are stored in the program directory, but you should hot have the right to do that).

Can you help with this problem?
