Running Anti Virus in Ubu 8.10 to scan external Windows drives

Asked by Tirrex_Falcon

I have a device that allows me to connect 3.5 and 2.5 drive to my system via USB. I would love to be able to scan the connected drive for viruses before I go copying data and fixing the systems that I work on. ClamAV has been mentioned repeatedly that it a mail server AV so I am not certain if it is meant to scan HD's or just SMTP traffic. Is is just that CalmAV works great in a mail server setup and work good as an over-all AV solution or is it a one trick pony and I need to find something else to scan entire HD's with?

Thanks

It can scan HDs too. Scanning your windows hard drives might not be the best idea. Clam AV is made for linux/unix systems and what it classes a virus might be something that isnt a virus in windows. Just scan with a windows based anti-virus program (AVG, Avast ...etc).

Hope that helps

I am assuming that I would have to install Wine and run the Win-based through the emulator?

Using Trinity Rescue Kit seems to work.
