I ran ubuntu from CD, now it won't boot properly from HDD

Asked by Steve G

I have recently installed EdUbuntu with multiple log-ins.
I later ran the Ubuntu live CD out of curiosity to see what on the HDD could or coudn't be accesed that way. Seems like this was a big mistake! I didn't make any changes whilst running the live CD (or so I thought!). But now Ubuntu does't boot properly from the HDD.
I went into recovery mode, (kernel 2.6.27-11) ran 'file system check' and was prompted to answer 'y' to fix errors about a hundred times. This did not fix thngs so I also ran 'repair broken packages'.
The system still does not work - and I fear I may have done more harm than good by doing the above.
I suppose something must have been changed on the HDD whilst I was running test mode from the CD.
I am thinking my best option might be to nuke the HDD and start from scratch.
Any other ideas?
(P4, 2GHz, 2G ram)
Thanks
Steve

you are going to have to reinstall ubuntu again install the cd into the drive and reboot the computer and press f12 you should get a screen scroll down untill the "cd/dvd" is highlited and press enter and follow the instructions from there.

Sounds weird, the LiveCD should not break anything. (unless you really start to install something or do other nasty things to your disk)

Will, could you please explain why this was a bad idea?

if you did the live cd incorrectly it will screw up the entire system. thus in result to reinstall the entire system again and thus a bad idea to try to do the live cd again or you will have the same problems.
