Extended Epson 870 printer support

Asked by Stig

I have successfully installed the driver for my Epson Stylus Photo 870 printer It prints, but I only see support for the most basic options (I'm using Kubuntu Feisty). Other distributions I've tried have provided options for a wide variety of normal and photo papers and different print resolutions, but the driver in Kubuntu only seems to support 2 sizes of plain paper at one print resolution. How do I add support for the other options ?

Can you take a look at the PPD for that printer on the other distributions you mentioned and the one provided by Ubuntu?

Thanks for your quick response. The PPD (I assume you're referring to the .ppd file in /etc/cups/ppd) for kubuntu is tiny compared to the one for the "other" distro (PCLinuxOS, BTW). The ubunto file is about 8.6K, and the other is about 76K, and contains many extra paper definitions, color models, calibration info - basically brings it up to par with the commercial (Windoze) support. By comparison, the kubunto file seems to provide only the bare minimum.

Can you save the Kubuntu PPD file and copy one from the other distributions to the same location, same place (/etc/cups/ppd/...) and see if this works for you?

Yes, this seems to work, I can now see all of the extra options. Shame this isn't included on disk ...

Can you please fill a bug against cups in launchpad and add the PPD file
as attachment? Maybe the developers can add it to the package.

Can you help with this problem?
