How can I make the worlds appear on the drop down menus on Opera web browser

Asked by Kenneth

The descriptions on the menu - file, edit view, etc. - are missing. They appear for a moment when the mouse is passed over them and then go away. Also I installed wine and the same thing happens there. The configure wine has no words on the tabs.

I do not understand your problem well but it may be font problem. Try install msttcorefonts package in synaptic (or ttf-mscorefonts-installer if you use Jaunty).

Sorry! Should have typed words not worlds. Have tried the Synaptic msttcorefonts route but that made no difference.

So you get this only with Opera and Wine? Opera requires Qt I think, so you have some Qt libraries need to be installed. About Wine, I do not know anything except Microsoft fonts that can cause your problem. Try deleting .opera and .wine hidden directories in you User directory, if you don't have important things in it (if so, back them up). The run them again.

Check to see if you have the same problem on OpenOffice worksheet. If you do, this could be graphics card... The only thing you have to do is lower the configuration under appearance preferences/Visual Effects tab (normal instead of extra, or none instead of normal).
