Restore the System / Quit dialog on jaunty

Asked by Marian Sigler

In Jaunty, there is no System -> Quit dialog anymore. The only way to log off is via the user switcher applet, but I don't need that and don't want my panel trashed with it. Is there a way to get the entry in the system menu back?

In Jaunty, they removed this. So, the answer at this time is no.

However I believe it is a usability mistake and should be added back in. Even the User Switcher applet does not have a way (without the mouse, of course) to Shutdown/Restart/Suspend using your keyboard.

It is a huge usability error on the developers part to remove Logout/Shutdown/Restart (basic "Leave") functions from the System menu.

Please see "bugs:"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fast-user-switch-applet/+bug/337775
&

To make your comments & address your concerns about this.

There have already been discussions about this, I believe, on the developers' mailing list.

Thanks,

OMFG. Full ACK, Thank you. Do you know if it's ubuntu specific or from upstream?

I am not sure. I know it started with Jaunty.

It has not affected the other distros that I use (I.E. Debian current), however the versions of Gnome are not as current, or "unstable," so I am hesitant to say if it is upstream or not with Gnome.

I guess we will know soon from the bug report.
