ubuntu 17.10 freezes just after login

Asked by Marcos Nascimento

Hello! I was using ubuntu 17.10 and everything was fine. After some updates I could not log in anymore. The PC freezes just after login and forces me to use the reset button. To get back to the system I had to install GNOME Classic (gnome-session-flashback). I can not tell if the problem is a bug or if it is the very old video card (nVidia GeForce 6800 XT). When I use ubuntu 14.06 with the same hardware it works perfectly. Anyone have any ideas about this problem?

I suggest you report a bug. 17.10 is not ready and not stable. If you want an OS that will run solidly then I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial. Xenial is LTS and supported til April 2021.

I'm using 17.10 with the intention of testing, but I noticed that the same problem occurs with 17.04 and with ubuntu GNOME 17.10 (others I have not tested). As for reporting the bug, the detail is that it does not generate an error message.

Can you help with this problem?
