have forgotten ubuntu login details

Asked by Gordon Martin

I recently installed ubuntu on my system, I am running Windows XP as well. I cannot login to Ubuntu though as I have forgotten the user details I used when downloading the ubuntu software. Anyone any ideas as to what I can do?

Hi Bernhard and thanks for your prompt reply, I have forgotten both username and password, is this going to work for both when I have lost the username as well?

Yes, just check it out. You have to boot into recovery mode and get a shell. Then go into the directory /home and you should see your username.
