ubuntu doesn`t start

i-ve switched off my pc after a night downloading with amule, when i restart the os all seems to be right until the loading bar after the screen turn black for two times and then i see the waiting cursor as the sistem is loading the login window but the screen remain black except the cursor!!

please help me and use a low english because mine its terrible...

This might be due to an issue with X settings. Go to the command line by using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or Ctrl + Alt + F1, and type startx. See if you get any error messages and report back.

Try restarting in safe mode/recovery mode and at the prompt regenerate the xorg.conf file with this command:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

how can i restart in that way? from live cd the start menu doesn't receive the keyboard input and it automatically boots from cd...

(if someone is italian i'll be gratefull speaking italian :-) )

We can speak Italian but we need to change the language you have choosen to use for this question. You need to choose Edit question from the menu on the left and change the language from English to Italian. You also need to change the title to something readable in Italian of course.....

I was here just for a case ,and i so a realy kindly people.I usualy I go to the ubuntu forum italy and even if i doesn't have problem with the language,I dont like the way they are.
Anyway my English is not perfect but i try my best ,If i don't disturb i wish like to come in this forum for getting some help .
I am new in Ubuntu with the all problem is coming with ,but now i allready take away Windows from my computer cause i want work with UBUNTU i get the last version 9.4.
And i hope we can have a frendly conversation I am Italian and if some people needs help for Italian I am always ready for him.
