Hey, are you running a 32 of 64 bit system?

Did you use this: JavaInstallation https://help.ubuntu.com/community/JavaInstallation

And which JDK are you using? OpenJDK, Sun Java, something else?

I've 8.04 and I need the following packages to run Java:

- sun-java6-jre
- sun-java6-bin
- java-common
- sun-java6-plugin

I guess you can find all these packages in the Synaptic Package Manager.

Hope it helps.
