HUGE fonts after update on jaunty

Asked by Pablo Marchant

I heard that Jaunty may have some problems with size font, but I installed it a while ago and never happened to me...until yesterday.

After updating and restarting my system, many things show abnormally huge fonts! The most annoying one, being nautilus, wich displays almost all fonts correctly, but in the part wich lists the files, fonts are big and ugly...openoffice also has giant fonts on the menu bar, as also the update-manager.

There are several more, but I dont think its much worth listing them...

what happened here?? How can I fix this??

Oh, just to clear something...Where I say "big and ugly", what I really mean is that the fonts shown with that size are ugly. Not that fonts have other particular rendering error that makes them look weird.

Please check in Preferences >> Appearance >> Fonts and reset the fonts manually to your desired fonts. Also, check the "DPI" and the monitor settings (LCD, etc.).

This will most likely correct your issue.

I hope this helps.

And when I say "font" I mean font and font size. Jaunty most likely matched your system's card and display to a...well, less than ideal setting.

Yup, that did it. However, its strange, cause I tried doing that yesterday and my fonts were set right. Now I looked at it, and many fonts it was setted to the size 13.3333333

Thats strange if you ask me!

Anyways, thanks for the tip. Hope other updates wont go doing this again...

This is filed as bug "327386." I have linked this question/answer to the bug. I encourage you to select "change" by "This affects me too."

I also encourage you to give feedback on the bug. It's being worked on, however any helpful feedback they get will always help. I've never heard of it happening on an update from Jaunty to Jaunty so that's news to me.

Pablo,

These bugs were marked as duplicates of the bug I linked to this:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/327950
&
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/331223

Take a look before writing me back. I believe they're all in the same ball camp, however the bug linked is the one they are targeting to fix "all of the problems" with the installer and update manager as it is the package that requires correcting.

Regards,

Craig H.
