encrypting my home directory

Asked by lisa

I am new to ubuntu. I want to know the steps i should take to first check if my home directory has been encrypted. (i forgot if I did this upon installation). Then second, encrypt it if the answer is no.
I am using ubuntu 17.04.
Would prefer a link to a tutorial.

If you didn't set it during installation then it's not encrypted.

You can use this guide:
https://www.howtogeek.com/116032/how-to-encrypt-your-home-folder-after-installing-ubuntu/

If the install is very young with little to no customization or data it may be simpler to just reinstall and select an encrypted home
