Get_iplayer removal v2.94

Asked by Rich.b

I have up-graded my PC with new SSD 480GB 2 x 2TB HD.

Have done complete clean installs for Windows Pro 10 and Ubuntu 16.04

I Only use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for get_iplayer.

Did have get_iplayer v3.01 running before my up-grade OK.

Have get_iplayer v2.94 installed (not working) but was trying to get get_iplayer v3.01

Q 1/ How do I delete get_iplayer v2.94.?

Q 2/ Where do I get a new install for get_iplayer v3.01 from?

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Andrew

If you installed get_iplayer 2.94-1 from the Ubuntu repositories, then you can uninstall it with the standard package management tools (e.g. Ubuntu-software), or with a command like "sudo apt-get purge get_iplayer" plus the clean-up command "sudo apt-get --purge autoremove" to delete packages not needed any more.

richard@richard-H81M-S2H:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jon-hedgerows/get-iplayer
get_iplayer lists, searches and records BBC iPlayer TV, Radio and Podcast programmes.

This PPA contains stable builds of get_iplayer, from the master branch at https://github.com/get-iplayer/get_iplayer/, together with sufficiently recent backported builds of AtomicParsley and ffmpeg (for trusty only). rtmpdump is also available for releases up to yakkety only.

Note that support for rtmpdump in this ppa will disappear once get-iplayer stops using it completely, and rtmpdump will not be added for future releases after yakkety as use of rtmpdump with get_iplayer is now discouraged.

See https://launchpad.net/~jon-hedgerows/+archive/ubuntu/rtmpdump if you want to continue to use rtmpdump.

If the software in this PPA breaks your system, try
  sudo ppa-purge ppa:jon-hedgerows/get-iplayer

If you look in your Downloads folder, is there the file you downloaded and the folder you extracted?

Ubuntu 16.04 has just done an update - (I think the update mentioned ffmpeg) this update has just happened while I was posting an earlier post and get_iplayer seams to be working ! ! !

Have recorded a program which will playback OK.
Thank you all for your help.

But still don't know how I got there ?

You could try locating the related files with the commands

sudo updatedb
locate get_iplayer
