Is libstdc++6-4.1-"dev"_4.1.2-27ubuntu1_i386.deb available instead of libstdc++6-4.1-"dbg"_4.1.2-27ubuntu1_i386.deb ?

Asked by HC

Hello,

I want to install g++ on my system which is running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When I use Synaptic Package Manager, it hints to install :-
libstdc++6-4.1-dev (4.1.2-27ubuntu1). However, what is available is libstdc++6-4.1-dbg 4.1.2-27ubuntu1. I tried to search for the'dev' version but have not been able to find it.

May I know where can I get the 'dev' version ? OR Will it be OK to use the 'dbg' version ?

Thanks,
hitcha

Ubuntu 10.04 is EOL and no longer supported in any way.

There are no packages for it and no community support.

What you are doing is like searching for Windows updates on Windows 98. They don't exist.

I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial. Xenial is LTS and supported til April 2021.

Hello,

Thank you for the quick reply @actionparsnip.

However, I can not wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial due to certain restrictions.

Can you tell me what is the difference between libstdc++6-4.1-dbg_4.1.2-27ubuntu1_i386.deb and libstdc++6-4.1-dev_4.1.2-27ubuntu1_i386.deb ? So that, I can install the dbg version instead of dev and get my work done.

Thanks & Regards,
hitcha

A link to the file that you want is here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-4.1/4.1.2-27ubuntu1/+build/1191643 but you most probably will have to cope with dependency problems for packages which this one depends on.

Depends: gcc-4.1-base (= 4.1.2-27ubuntu1), g++-4.1 (= 4.1.2-27ubuntu1), libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.2-27ubuntu1), libc6-dev (>= 2.5)

A word of caution: Ubuntu 10.04 is in "end of life" status since April 2015. There were no corrections and bug fixes published any more since that time, and any installation might be unprotected against all the vulnerabilities that have been detected recently (shellshock, heartbleed, poodle ...)

Can you help with this problem?
