Hi,
Please see the answer from forumuser Bismuth at the following location:
http://
So apparently, your wireless adapter should work out-of-the-box on Ubuntu 8.10.
So I advise booting from the Ubuntu 8.10 LiveCD and to test your wireless during the LiveCD session. If it works, then install Ubuntu 8.10 from the LiveCD session onto your harddisk.
Regards,
Mark

Hi puran157,
Please connect your network card to the wireless router using a LAN cable.
Then please follow this procedure, while inside Ubuntu 8.04:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Terminal"
Step 2: Run the following commands (copy-paste each line below to the Terminal then hit <enter> after each line)
sudo aptitude install hwinfo
hwinfo --netcard
sudo iwlist scanning
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
dmesg | grep witch
iwconfig
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output from each command) on this thread
Regards,
Mark

Hi,
If pytheas22's procedure does not work, then you can try this one instead:

Hi,
Please try the following procedure (which is very similar to pytheas22's procedure, but more detailed):
First disable encryption on your wireless router and make sure that SSID broadcasting is enabled on the router. (just for testing purposes)
Then open a terminal and run the following commands:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install rutilt build-essential linux-headers-
rutilt will hopefully allow you to configure your wireless connection. Try starting up rutilt and see if it can find your wireless router.
If not, then do the following:
From the http://
1. Download the daily CVS snapshot:
In a terminal, type : wget http://
2.Unpack the tarball
In a terminal, type :
tar xvzf rt61-cvs-
3. Change to the rt61-cvs-xxx/Module directory (where xxx is the build date of the package)
4. Compile the module:
In a terminal, type :
./configure
make
5. Install the module and other necessary things.
In a terminal, type : sudo make install
6.
In a terminal, type : sudo gedit /etc/modules
Add the following line to the end of the modules file
rt61
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
Add the following line to the end of the blacklist file
blacklist rt61pci
7. Load the module as root:
In a terminal, type : sudo modprobe rt61
That's it. At next reboot it will be loaded automatically. Now you can use your brand new driver, but you have to configure your wlan card. Try starting up rutilt again and see if it can find your wireless router. If that does not work, try using the NetworkManager icon to see if you find your wireless router.
Regards,
Mark
