Was this an Ubuntu 8.04 that was working fine on a hard-drive and then one day just suddenly wouldn't let you boot up? If so do you get as far as the Grub loader that offers a choice of lots of Ubuntu's including trying Ubuntu in "Recovery Mode"? Running a few of those options might help.

If this was just a Cd that you have just made then please quickly skim through some of these guides to see if there's a sentence in there that might help a little

THE DISC IS A UBUNTU CUSTOM PRESSING.
THE GRUB LOADER POSTS AND VERY SHORTLY DELIVERS THE FATAL ERROR MESSAGE.

Wow, thanks for letting us know some useful information there. It might also help if you could tell us what your Cpu speed is and how much Ram you have.

For later on it might be helpful to tell us how large your hard-drive is and what OS you were previously using on it. Can you still boot into the old OS?

Good luck from
Tom :)

Brilliant, nicely done. It's a legitimate solution to a lot of problems and can save a lot of time, headaches, stress and heartaches. Definitely a good one for the "Solved" answers database that people can hunt through :)

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
