my screen is cutting out on me

My screen is shutting down on me while in use via programming(no physical problem). i am unable to find the appropriate power management device to restructure the problem as this is my best guess to fix it.I have looked under power management in screen saver mode and can't find the necessary tools. I have a random background which I did after this problem occurred and since, can not find the power manager. This did NOT happen before I upgraded to LINUX.

Try System, Preferences, Power Management.

Also, System, Preferences, Sessions and under Startup Programs check to see that the Power Manager entry has a tick.
