Thank you for your tip. Perhaps you misunderstood my query. I did use "sudo" to install the program. The problem is when I open Applications/System Tools and launch Ubuntu Tweak, I get the error:"failed to execute child process." I need to know the rest of the command after "sudo." Please reply.

Furthermore, I see that my original query was marked as "solved" and it is not solved. I am sorry if my inexperience in posting on Launchpad caused this confusion and I hope that someone will enlighten me with further input

He/we just did not think you installed it with root/sudo privileges.

Also, which version of Ubuntu Tweak are you running? What version of Ubuntu are you running?

Make sure you are installing the right version of Ubuntu Tweak for the right version of Ubuntu.

Install from repositories if you are able to (a good guide is at: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-tweak-ubuntu.html). Remember to modify the repository names to match the version of Ubuntu you are running. Remove Ubuntu Tweak and reinstall from a clean slate (sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-tweak, update your sources.list file, then sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak).

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex and am trying to launch the latest version of Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.6-1 intrepid. Synaptic package manager indicates that this version is installed and the app. appears in Applications/System Tools, however, when I launch from System Tools I get error:failed to execute child process. My /etc/apt/sources.list follows:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ubuntu intrepid main
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid restricted universe multiverse main
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-backports restricted universe multiverse main

Can't someone respond. This is not a critical matter, as it doesn't interfere with anything other than launching Ubuntu Tweak. I've tried everything suggested-no success, as I still get Error:Failed to execute child process. i've been asked to "dpkg-reconfigure localepurge, I've done that via package manager(synaptic), I've sudo apt-get updated, I've sudo apt-get dist upgrade and still I can't launch Ubuntu Tweak on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. What's up? Is everybody stumped? Please walk me through this. Thanks.

Hi Norris,

I've just been looking into your problem a little more.

check out http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1090408&page=3

They seamed to have solved the problem by:

Un-installing ubuntu-tweak - through 'synaptic'

and then

Install it directly with the deb file.

See page http://ubuntu-tweak.com/downloads

So just download the .deb file and double-click on it.

I've been using ubuntu-tweak for a while now and it is a great application.

Let me know how you go.

Andrew.

Andrew,

As a matter of fact your suggestion relative Ubuntu Tweak is exactly the method I used to solve my problem. The .deb package hooked right up, so I'm good to go. Thanks for your input
