Mint is not supported by the Ubuntu community in any way. It's support community is entirely separate from Ubuntu's.

If you have an issue with Mint then you want the Mint forum here:
https://forums.linuxmint.com

So installing the Nvidia driver in Ubuntu causes an issue? Is that right?

If you boot to root recovery console and run:

mount -o remount,rw /

cd /home; ls

Will show you your username (if you are unsure of it). You can then run:

chown -R name:name /home/name

Obviously change "name" for your username. You will get a warning but this is fine. Once this has ran, run:

reboot
