16.04.2 installation efi,LUKS,LVM,ext4 readonly

Asked by Djordje Vujnovic

HI
i've just got new hp elitebook 745 g3 ssd 256gb.
After installing 16.04.2 on uefi system with guided lvm partitioning with encryption system was working fine.
After update from 4.8.0-36 to 4.8.0-52 i have seen my system constantly going readonly; or installation with update selected;
Rebooting and fsck helps, but then again while working i get readonly filesystem.
I've noticed also that ubuntu installer doesn't produce bootable system if you manually partition disk and create LUKS , VG and ext4 fs. when booting it won't ask for LUKS password, but drops to initramfs shell with error not being able to activate VG.
I've been trying to fix it and got it to ask for luks password, but then vg gets activated and it goes in loop, activating vg, vg activated, activating vg.
Now i've installed ubuntu without luks and instead of ext4 i used xfs. So i can't get you any logs, but if needed i'll do the installation again with LUKS,LVM,ext4.
I've run gsmarttools and it passed short and long tests without errors.

please advise how to proceed.

How are you running the FSCK? Are you booting to live CD / USB desktop and running it there?

thank you for your replay.
fsck was done after the reboot as the system boot up stops until you manually run fsck.
Other tasks mentioned before were done via livecd with mouting local disks/partitions/filesystems.

"... After update from 4.8.0-36 to 4.8.0-52 ..."
Do you still have version 4.8.0-36 of the kernel packages available, and can you try selecting this older version for booting?
Does this show similar errors, or do you get a stable system?

no, i've set it up with xfs(no luks, lvm) so i could have os working and test the hdd, and it passed smart tests quick and extended one.
i didn't go and test again with older kernel as it was working with older kernel after install. issue occured only after kernel update

I've tried the same thing on VM, installing 16.04.2 (with manually parititoning) UEFI,LUKS, LVM,ext4 and I still get unbootabloe system as on phy machine.
