dual boot ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10

Asked by Sam Floren on 2017-05-19

Just built a new system. Here is some info you may/not need
Intel I5 7600k
Gigabyte Z270-HD3
Radeon RX570
(2) Toshiba HDWD110 1 Tera byte hard drives
Windows 10 (retail)

I installed Windows 10 first on drive 0 with the sata cable of drive 1disconnected (successfully).
I disconnected the sata cable of drive 0 and reconnected the sata cable of drive 1, then installed
Ubuntu 16.04 from the dvd drive. That went OK.
I connected the sata cables of both drives and rebooted. Ubuntu came up automatically. My hope was
to run update-grub and it would find Windows now that both drives are connected. That didn't work.

I can switch between Windows and Ubuntu by tapping F12 during bootup, it works but I would rather
it was like my other systems dual booting Windows 7 and Linux. I want the grub menu if I can get it without
too much bother.

I haven't transferred any files to this new machine yet so if I have redo Linux that would be OK. I would rather
Leave Windows 10 alone if I could.

Thanks in advance
