That is a linux fact of life. If "you" do not own the file -you- can not mess with it .
What is this file and from where do you want to copy it and where do you want to copy it to ?
One can become root (sudo) to perform administrative tasks or in some cases to do things one should not be doing .

- sudo you can break it too-
