start the synaptic package manager and install aptoncd.
this sounds like what you are looking for.

hi there guys,

I need to download the latest updates whatever it may be. I've read in the Ubuntu website that they this so called "alternate cd" which ubuntu 8.10 updates. What i mean latest updates is that updates that is critical to ubuntu 8.10 to function like driver updates, bug fixes but i want it offline which means i want to download the updates and keep it to be installed on computer that don't have internet connection.
