Ubuntu 8.10 - Need to run IE with MS XML Parser

Asked by Dave Haring

Hello. I need to use a web site that says IE 6 or higher is needed. I read everything I could find and came up with User Agent Switcher. This seems to work and gets me past the first page of the site, but, then it says I need Bill's XLM Parser. Is there any workaround for this? I haven't found anything.

I was going to run Vistuh through Virtual Box but it doesn't work and my question has expired.

I was thinking of Wine although I don't yet know what that is. Would be nice to have an add-on style fix like the Switcher though.

Any info helpful... Thanks. Dave

Here is a very simple command line to get IE running in wine using Ubuntu.

Wine, after setup, will be in a new field under applications. I've had success with this method.

Good luck. :)

Thanks! OK, I tried it. Technically I guess IE was actually running but it kept dimming, and, almost unable to change URL's for some reason. Nothing would load. It crashes every time I click on favorites. It seems in no way usable enough to be able to do what I need to do. I really need it to function...

Try the User Agent Switcher, a Firefox add-on. Here’s how to do it…

Open Firefox, go to Tools, then Add-ons. Under the Get Add-ons tab, enter user agent switcher into the search box, install it, & restart Firefox. Now, as you approach a web site or page that requires Internet Explorer, just go to Tools, then User Agent Switcher, & select Internet Explorer.

Yes, that works great for the initial problem, but, after using the Switcher the site then says I also need the XML Parser and will not let me continue...

In other words, the IE run through wine from the above link does not contain the XML Parser and keeps me from getting to http://org.mlxchange.com

Regarding wine I got a little more info. Wine gives IE6 SP1 - and what I need is IE6 SP2, which, I guess is not offered. I'm now wondering if IE7 in wine would resolve this issue...
