merge kubuntu and ubuntu

Asked by Abhinav

Hi
I got kubuntu and ubuntu installed on two separate partitions. I have to reboot to boot into another. Is there any way to merge them. I don't want to download kde on ubuntu.

I can't figure what you're meaning exactly with 'merge'.

I guess it's not possible to merge this two systems.

If you install Ubuntu, you will get the gnome environment. This is the default. You can install Gnome also from Synaptic Package Manager: gnome-desktop-environment is the package.

Also kde is part of Synaptic. But I'm not sure, which package you have to install.

Abhinav,

because i am using very old PC's i am using the Xubuntu-version, using the light XFCE-desktop on top of Debian linux;
Kubuntu is Debian-linux with KDE on top;
Ubuntu has Gnome on top of it.

In the Xubuntu-versions you can choose to start Kde- and Gnome- facilities by next reboot, so you can start any Kde-/Gnome-program.

I assume that in Kubuntu and Ubuntu as well you can set your system to start Gnome and Kde facilies both to "ON" ...
Please look around in <System>,... <Configuration>,... <Sessions_and_Startup>,... <Advanced-TAB>,... <Compatibility>,...
 [] Start Gnome services at login
 [] Start Kde services at login

Probably the menu-path is quite different at your PC, boot search around, you will find it.

Can you cope your problem now ?!?
