Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu.

I had this same problem earlier myself.

http://www.backports.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=3937762&postcount=11

I followed his exact advice, In my case I had add an application from a PPA the 5-a-day, This application doesn't automatically get marked as an update is available so that you can have some level of control over what is getting installed from a PPA (Personal Package Archive). If you follow what he says in that post, and open up Synaptic Package Manager and check the Mark all upgrades option, it should then reload automatically and you should then be prompted to go ahead and install your updates.

Hope this helps.

Chris
