System does not power down with shutdown

Asked by tadiv

Some time ago I began to encounter an issue where my machine does not power off (most of the time it does not - on a few rare occasions it does) when I select the shutdown option. In the previous scenario (see https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/288575 ) it was basically suggested that I update my BIOS to the latest version. I did that today. The system still does not power off the machine on a shutdown.

Any other suggestions?

Respectfully,
Tom

Hi there
I had a similar problem, it was the bios for me updated it and all good.
Do you have any other OS on your computer.?
If so will they shut down.
For me none would shut down only reboot..

If others can't shutdown I would say still bios is the problem. .

But first try to reset the bios jumping the pins on the motherboard. . (Unplug the power first no power at all pull the plug)
Then reflash bios if no good..

Hope all works out
Neil

Yea - I hve the latest BIOS and initially after that change I still had the issue, but I'm guessing that there was an update after I flashed the BIOS and now it turns off 9 of 10 times (as opposed to 1 out of 30 or 40).

Thanks,
Tom
