Problem configuring Wireless networking

Asked by SteveM

When I ran Ubuntu in test mode from the live CD, I configured and connected to my wireless router without problem.

Having now installed Ubuntu, I cannot connect as I have problems with the configuration. I select the encryption type "WPA" and enter my key, but it fails to connect. When I go back into the "Edit connection" and select "show password" the password has changed! I cannot seem to save the correct password... Why?

The password doesn't change, you just see the hash and not the password itself.

What chipset is your wlan and how did you configure it? Could you please provide the output of lspci and lsmod?

The password does change. If, for example, I type/paste the following password:

    5324g2e37823t8732yeg32t7832`h2h298hwgdibdo_1dywgd8gdyv%((q

When I go back into the "Edit connection" dialog and click the "Show password" checkbox, the following might be displayed:

   356532uy2gd6g61d6328gdg2d7612d632fg76d3`32673g2t372t`2gt7e2g

The chipset and configuration of my wlan should not be significant as; a) it works perfectly in Windows XP, b) it worked perfectly well when running Ubuntu from the CD pre-installation.

As I am now in XP to use the internet, I'll look at collecting the output from lspci and lsmod later.

Managed to get it working.

Still couldn't create a new connection using the edit connection. But when I tried to create a new connection on the fly using "Connect to a hidden Wireless network", this worked, although when I go into the "Edit connection" dialog and look at the Wireless security, and click show password, it still shows the wrong password!!!!
