reinstalling ubuntu from disc

Asked by photogenius_uk

I would like to reinstall Ubuntu using the recently acquired official disc. I have already got Vista and Ubuntu on my computer (the Ubuntu was downloaded) so my hard drive is already partitioned, about 50/50.

I did run the disc some way but stopped when I saw that I was going to re-partition with Ubuntu taking up 100%of the new parttition so did that mean that Vista would be discarded or was it just referring to the already installed Ubuntu partition? If the latter, I don't mind that but I certainly don't want to get rid of Vista in this way with all my documents and programmes in that.

Any suggestions?

Insert the ubuntu disc and reboot the system, then begin the setup process.
When the installer asks you about the partitioning, select manual and go next. Select each partition you used and click edit, then from the dropdown set the partition type you used before and set the mount point, and decide if you want to format the partition. When you have done this, go forward until the finish dialog.
Now you have to take a decision: install the ubuntu default boot loader, grub, or use vista's.... I suggest you to use grub, so you can click finish and complete the setup; if you don't want to install grub, click advanced and deselect "install grub" the ok and finish.

I hope it can help... but a question: why do you want to reinstall ubuntu? :)

Can you help with this problem?
