Computer came with kubuntu 14.04 and asks for password

Asked by Kawan Olimpio

Hello!
I'm here for my brother. He was given a computer that came with kubuntu 14.04, already came with a user, something like "user-to-be-defined", and a password that we NEVER knew what was. It already came with a password, we didn't create one.
I need to install flash on it, he's 12 and studies and needs flash to access some websites, and when i try to install it via sudo etc etc it asks for a password.
I tried to reset the password via root, it LOOKED like it worked but when I tried to install flash again, it asked for the password, I typed the password I defined, it didn't show that I typed anything at all and then said "sorry, try again".
idk what to do, I NEVER used anything ubuntu linux etc related. Allllll I know is how to use windows.
Can anyone help me please?

You will not get any feedback when you type the password as confirmation for a "sudo" command (no echo, not even '*' placeholders). Just type the password and press the enter key.

If you want to reset the password, you can use the instructions in http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
