At what point during the install does it fail?
Are you installing with windows or is it going to be a fresh install?
Are you able to boot from a LiveCD?
I would love to help but we need more info then 'it doesn't install'.
Assuming everything else is working, try making sure that if the SATA drive is your only physical drive, that the drive is set properly in the BIOS as the master drive, and that the jumpers are properly set.

More questions i afraid! lol, hopefully some possible answers too though

Is it a "raided drive"?

If you can boot into a LiveCd session with your Cd & with this guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD
then that's a good sign.

A dual-boot is often the best way to install a new OS, especially if you've not installed an OS before or haven't used linux much. I still keep Windows in case i ever need it as it's nothing like as easy to install as Ubuntu usually is. There is a way to install Ubuntu within Windows but it's better to install it properly

Good luck and regards from
