Uninstalling Ubuntu Dual-boot without accessing the other OS

Asked by Viknesh

I currently have Ubuntu 6.06 and Windows XP Pro SP2 installed on my Thinkpad r50 laptop. However, I appear to be locked out of my windows account (no idea how that happened...it just wasn't accepting my password...stupid computer...). I would like to access safe mode in Windows (which, I believe, will give me the option of logging onto the administrator account), but I can't get into safe mode with the GRUB loader. So, I was wondering how I could uninstall Ubuntu without accessing Windows OR uninstalling the GRUB boot loader and just using the native boot loader...life is so confusing...

The windows boot loader should still be there after GRUB. Choose windows from grub then immediately start smacking F8 to bring the windows boot menu up. At least the last time I had problems with windows, that's what I did. :)

caps lock?

You can also look for a password reset tool for windows that runs under linux and run it from your ubuntu.

I hope this helps
