Install problem with 30 inch monitor

I am posting this partly as a question, but mostly as a solution that might be helpful to someone else with a similar problem.

I have a 30 inch monitor, an Nvidia graphics card (8800 GTX I think), and displaying at 2560x1600 resolution. When I first tried to install 8.10 (also happened in a couple of earlier versions), the installation barely gets started, the screen goes blank, it seems to hang. After a lot of frustration, I discovered that it was the splash screen that was causing the problem. When I booted with -nosplash the installation proceeded normally.

So I am just wondering if anyone else has a solution for this, other than using -nosplash?

I wonder if you have any problems after installing? If not, good. If there is, please provide information about them.

You should file a bug about this, if you still encounter this again.
