Asked by dezel29

just tried to install ubuntu 8.10 . all works well untill the step 3 of 7. it came back with error about 4096kb something or other and then the starting up the partitioner comes on screen. it says scanning disks but has been at 50% for over 20 minutes now. what do i need to do to fix this problem ?? new to linux and tired of windows. please help. thanks device /dev/sdc has a logical sector sizeof 2048. not all parts of GNU parted support this at the moment, and the working code is highly experimental.... this is wat it says with warning...wat does this mean ??? how to fix ??

Most linux's prefer to be on ext3 rather than fat32 or ntfs. Both of the later types have been developed by Microsoft for Windows but ext2, ext3 (and ext4 when it's finished) have been developed for linux. OS's are better when they are on Primary Partitions but Windows partitioners will tend to make all but the first partition a Logical Partition inside an Extended Partition - which is ok for data but causes slow-downs and problems for Operating Systems or linux-swap partitions.

It would be easier to use an Ubuntu Partitioner. From the LiveCd (use the Ubuntu Cd without installing anything) go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Partition Editor

or just use the Partitioner included in the installation process.
