Asked by lildevil13

i have a laptop ACER Aspire 1642WLMi. i've tried the ubuntu 6.10 live cd and it works fine and even possible to install it into a virtual machine over windowsXP.
I'm actually trying to get use to linux before really installing it !

UBUNTU - After the splash screen it loads the kernel etc... then i got a login screen??? y so? i've tried the cd on my friend laptop (Fujitsu-Amilo) and another desktop computer and it loads without any login screen! and works really fine . i've tried so many login name and password, no one works :(
Kubuntu - after the splash screen when it starts loading it freeze ... i've tried the cd on a friend laptop and once more it work really fine !

i've made a memory test from UBUNTU cd and no error found (> 3hrs)
i've made a memory test from a boot cd that i've got from microsoft website and no error found! (>1hr)

ON the virtual machine when trying to load UBUNTU & KUBUNTU 7.04 it freezes when it start loading.

Is it a text console login you're seeing or graphical one?

I found a simimlar post from someone who had the same problem. A good idea would be to run the alternate desktop installation cd.

You'll find it under http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download, just click "Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD. This CD does not include the Live CD, instead it uses a text-based installer."

I have the same problem (downloaded the CD iso from http://releases.ubuntu.com.ba/feisty/ubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso), and I tried about 50 different combinations... and since I have windows xp on the machine, I even entered username and password for that... but no result. Help...
