Upgraded from 16.10 to 17.04, now blank screen only, no graphics

Asked by Quin Dennis

Been running Ubuntu for years, just upgraded to 17.04 from 16.10. Live USB wouldn't boot to graphics, nor would ISO. Used Software and Updates - New Version, it went through updates, on reboot, after Grub 17.04 selection, blank screen. HP Pavilion P7-1235 Radon Graphics, AMD Quad. No working system now.

Did you have the proprietary video drivers installed before the upgrade?

The HP has been running for years with Ubuntu, so I presume I had whatever was needed to make it work for 16.10, with Budgie on top.

Also, since 17.04 wasn’t working, I’m just installing 16.10 again, the USB drive with 16 works fine, so wonder what was changed in 17 to break the graphics.

If you try a clean install of Zesty is that OK?

Hi, unfortunately not, an install (of the latest, release) leaves me
with no graphics, as does an attempted LiveBoot.
